Message from the Chief Statistician of Canada

Thank you for participating in the 2026 Census. The Census of Population and the Census of Agriculture paint a portrait of Canada's population and farming sector. The information you provide produces statistics that communities, businesses, and governments rely on to plan services, develop programs, and make informed decisions about employment, schools, public transportation, hospitals and more.

Your answers are collected under the authority of the Statistics Act and kept strictly confidential. By law, every household must complete a 2026 Census of Population questionnaire.

If you are a farm operator, you are also required by law to complete the 2026 Census of Agriculture questionnaire.

Statistics Canada makes use of existing sources of information, such as immigration, income tax and benefits data, to reduce the response burden placed on households and farm operations.

The information you provide may be used by Statistics Canada for other statistical and research purposes or may be combined with other survey or administrative data sources.
