Property taxes are calculated based on the assessed value of your property. The assessment value shown on your 2016 reassessment notice reflects a market date of April 1, 2014.
Assessment and classification can be appealed, however taxes cannot be appealed. If you believe that your property valuation is incorrect, please discuss it with the Provincial Assessment Branch by calling toll free 1-866-216-9342 or 204-326-9896.
Appealing your Assessment
2017 Property Assessment Notices (if there are changes) will be mailed in October of 2016. If you do not receive an assessment notice, the 2016 property valuation would be applicable. To appeal the 2017 property assessment, an "Application for Revision of the 2017 Assessment Roll" must be received by the R.M. of Taché Municipal Office by 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 8th, 2016.
2016 Property Assessment notices were mailed in May of 2015. Your ability to appeal was explained in that reassessment notice. The 2016 assessment appeals were reviewed by the Board of Revision on Thursday, November 19th, 2015. The 2016 tax roll is now closed, and you can no longer appeal your assessment value.
That being said, if you have recently received a supplementary tax notice for new construction, such as a new residence, garage, renovations, etc, your right to appeal has been stated in a letter along with that supplementary notice. Appeals must be submitted to the municipal office. We strongly recommend that you call the Provincial Assessment Branch to discuss your property value prior to registering an appeal, as many questions can be easily answered by phone.
